Organisation
Kerala Police Academy is headed by a Director in the Rank of Inspector General of Police Assisted by a Deputy Inspector General of Police. There are five Assistant directors in the rank of Superintendent of Police to coordinate the Indoor, Outdoor and Technical training of Kerala Police Academy. The responsibility of the overall planning and supervision of training activities of Kerala police is vested in ADGP (Training).
Functions
Kerala Police Academy undertakes a variety of training programs catering to the requirements at various levels in the police department. KEPA imparts basic training to all categories in the police department including driver police constables, Telecommunication Police constables, Armed Police constables, Women Police constables, Armed Police Sub Inspectors, reserve Sub Inspectors, and Sub Inspectors (general executive branch). The basic training of police dogs and dog handlers is also being imparted at the state dog training school at KEPA. Other departments like Kerala Motor Vehicle Department, Kerala fire and Rescue services, Forest department, and Excise department are also availing the service of KEPA in imparting the basic training to their recruits at various levels.
In addition to thebasic training, conducts in-service courses for officers of all ranks of police from Civil Police Officer to Deputy Superintendents of Police / Assistant Superintendents of Police (IPS Probationers) in all policing subjects and in-service training for Prosecutors, Social Justice Department officials, CWC, JJB, Child Line, Tribal Promoters and NGOs. Various in-service courses supported by the Institute of Management in Government (IMG), Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Data Security Council of India (DSCI), National Institute of Mental Health And Neuro Science (NIMHANS), Wild Life Crime Control Bureau, Cost Guard, National Women Commission (NWC), State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), Kerala State Youth Commission, CDAAC, Social Justice Department (SJD) Kerala and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
In addition, imparting training to trainees of other organizations like:-Motor Vehicle department, Forest department, Legal Metrology, Excise Department, Fire and rescue services, Prosecution, and Musketry training for BSc forestry students. Moreover, KEPA is also imparting basic and in-service training to the officers and men of Lakshadweep Police, Pondicherry Police, and Central excise and Customs.
